The Tulsa Race Massacre is a major event in the history of Tulsa and Oklahoma. It is considered one of the worst race riots in U.S. history. In the early morning hours of May 31 and June 1, 1921, the Greenwood neighborhood was attacked by a mob of White Tulsans. They were trying to drive out the Black population and force them to leave town. The riot started after rumors spread about the rape of a White woman by a Black man. This is why the Black Wall Street was referred to as “the Negro’s Wall Street.” People went into the Greenwood neighborhood, which was the Black district, and began attacking Black people and burning Black-owned businesses. They set fires, broke windows, and shot at Blacks.

The city of Tulsa has been called the birthplace of Route 66 because of the influence of Route 66 on its development. Before it was officially designated as a U.S. highway, the road was known as Main Street. It started in Chicago and ended in California. After 1926, it was extended to Albuquerque, New Mexico.

From 1926 to 1930, Route 66 connected Chicago with Los Angeles. In the late 1930s, a section of the road was closed to make way for Interstate 40 and Interstate 70. Today, only a small portion of the original route remains.

In 1925, Cyrus Avery, a successful businessman in Tulsa, decided that a route from Chicago to Los Angeles was needed. This new road was designated as U.S. Highway 66. Many tourists came to Tulsa looking for rest stops along the way. There were many attractions and historic places along the way that were easy to get to. The road had a route marker in the shape of a blue whale. This road became a main attraction to people passing through Tulsa. It is known today as Route 66. Tulsa has many buildings and attractions that are related to Route 66. This includes the Blue Whale of Catoosa. It is a giant blue whale sculpture that was created by artist Joe Young.

Before the establishment of Route 66, most travelers passed through Tulsa by taking the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad, known as the “C.B.&Q.” After the opening of Route 66, however, many travelers began taking the route through Tulsa and enjoyed visiting the businesses along the way. The city’s growth was stimulated, and new industries emerged. Soon, Tulsa became a thriving oil capital. Because of its strategic location, the city began to thrive. Many oil companies chose Tulsa as their headquarters. This helped the city to develop and grow into a major oil center. Many businessmen flocked to the city and created many new businesses.
